About the role
You will design, deploy and support server platforms for clients across many industries. You will own them in production: keeping them patched, monitored, backed up and secure, and automating everything that is done more than once. You will work closely with our network, cloud and security teams.
What you will do
- Build, configure and harden Linux and Windows Server systems to agreed standards
- Automate builds, patching and changes with Ansible, Puppet or similar tools
- Set up monitoring, alerting, backups and regular restore tests
- Troubleshoot issues across hardware, operating system, network and storage
- Handle incidents and changes, and find and fix root causes
- Keep runbooks, diagrams and documentation up to date
- Take part in a fair, planned on-call rota
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years administering production Linux servers (RHEL, Ubuntu or Debian) for business clients
- Current RHCE, RHCSA or LFCS certification
- 3+ years automating server builds and patching with Ansible, Puppet or Salt
- Production experience with backups, monitoring (Zabbix, Prometheus or similar) and tested restores
- Scripts or automation you can show us (GitHub, GitLab or a code sample)
- English at CEFR C1 or above (IELTS 7.0 or equivalent)
Expert knowledge
- Linux internals: systemd, cgroups v2, namespaces, the boot process and kernel tuning with sysctl
- Performance analysis under load with perf, eBPF tools, iostat and vmstat
- Storage and file systems: LVM, RAID, XFS and ZFS, and recovery from disk failures
- Server hardening to CIS Benchmarks with SELinux or AppArmor enforcing
Preferred qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- VMware VCP or Proxmox production experience
- Work under ISO 27001 or Cyber Essentials Plus controls
- MSP experience supporting 10+ client environments
